Peter Stucki received his degrees from the Swiss Federal Institute of Tech­nology, Zurich, and the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, Lon­don. He joined the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory, Rüschlikon, in 1967, where he held va­rious research staff positions in the areas of digital image processing and documentation systems. In 1979 Peter Stucki was appointed Manager of the Ad­van­ced Computer Appli­cation Development Project. During his time in industry, he had inter­national as­sign­­ments to the IBM Germany Research and Develop­ment Labo­ratory in Böblingen (1974) as well as to the IBM Research Laboratory in San Jose, Cali­fornia (1975-1976).

From 1985-2004, Dr. Stucki was Full-Professor of Computer Science at the Uni­versity of Zurich and head of the MultiMedia Laboratory at the Department of Computer Science. His teaching and research activities comprised the areas of multimedia, scientific visualization, virtual reality and rich-media based learning. Stucki also spent academic sabbaticals at the Advanced Telecommunications Research (ATR) Laboratories, Kyoto, Japan and at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI), University of California at Berkeley, USA. From 1998-2002 Prof. Stucki served as Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Business Administration and Information Technology (WWF) at the University of Zurich.

Peter Stucki is the author of over one-hundred-fifty scientific and techni­cal publi­cations and the editor of several books. He received a best paper award form the Society of Information Display and several IBM outstanding inn­o­vation and in­vention achie­ve­ment awards.

During his long professional career, he assumed a number of honorary functions such as president steering committee Swiss Virtual Campus (SVC), head of the advisory board Virtuelle Hochschule Bayern (VHB), member of the scientific advisory board of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin (Wiko) and many others.
